Academy members from across the Kimberley region of WA recently gathered in Broome for the annual Kimberley Year 12 Leadership Camp, spending two days building relationships, developing leadership skills and preparing for the year ahead.
The camp brought together academy members and staff from across the region for a program that combined practical activities, leadership discussions and opportunities to begin planning their final year experiences.
The opening afternoon saw the group take part in a range of activities including laser tag and giant slot car racing, providing a relaxed setting for the academy members to connect and settle into the camp.
The following morning shifted the focus to leadership and personal development. Academy members discussed what leadership means to them, worked together to develop their academy pledge and began planning their end-of-year major trip.
The group then visited several primary schools in Broome, spending time in classrooms supporting younger students with both in-class and outdoor activities. The visit was a highlight for many, with the younger students welcoming the academy members enthusiastically and the group embracing the chance to give back.
The final afternoon featured an employment expo involving several Clontarf supporters and local partners. Academy members rotated through a series of sessions discussing employment opportunities, before taking part in mock interviews and working through their Graduate Employment Plans.
The sessions generated a strong sense of energy across the rooms, with academy members engaging confidently with partners and making the most of the opportunity to practise interview skills and discuss future pathways.
The camp concluded with a sit-down buffet dinner at Cable Beach Club Resort, bringing academy members, staff and supporters together to reflect on the two days.
It was a positive start to the year for the Kimberley Year 12 group, and the Foundation looks forward to seeing what the group achieves in the months ahead.
