Late in August, senior members from the Belmont, Cecil Andrews, Ellenbrook, Girrawheen, Kiara, Northam, Scotch and Swan View Academies (Perth, WA) gathered at Driver Risk Management for a day focused on road safety and responsible driving.
The event was a collaborative effort between the Clontarf Foundation and the Road Safety Commission, aimed at equipping young drivers with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the roads safely.
The day was packed with engaging activities designed to provide a hands-on learning experience. The academy members tested their driving abilities on a network of high-spec driving simulators, racing each other in a fun yet educational environment. The simulators provided a safe space for the boys to experience various driving scenarios and understand the potential hazards they might face on the road.
Following the simulators, the participants moved on to supervised driver training on a specialised outdoor track. Under the guidance of professional instructors, the boys honed their driving skills, learning how to handle their vehicles in different conditions and situations. The training emphasised the importance of staying in control and making safe decisions behind the wheel.
A key highlight of the day was a impactful road safety talk, which addressed the risks and consequences of unsafe driving. This session aimed to instil a sense of responsibility in the young drivers, encouraging them to think critically about their actions on the road.
Staff from the Road Safety Commission were on hand throughout the day, providing additional support and engaging with the academy members. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the strong partnership between the Commission and the Clontarf Foundation.
The Clontarf Foundation’s commitment to road safety is evident in its ongoing efforts to provide academy members with access to driving safety sessions, professional driving lessons, and driving tests. In 2024 alone, 258 Year 11-12 boys across the Foundation’s
Western Australian academies have already obtained their learner’s permits, and 48 have earned their driver’s licenses. These numbers are expected to grow as more boys participate in activities like the Driving Safety Day.
The Clontarf Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the Road Safety Commission for their invaluable support in making this event possible. Together, we are making a significant impact in preparing young drivers to make safe and informed decisions on the road.
