When Joshsiah Daniels walked into his first day of Year 12 at Townsville High, he carried a challenge few could see. He held just two Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) points — a long way from the twenty required to graduate. On paper, completing Year 12 looked almost impossible.
Alongside this, Joshsiah was managing life independently out of home, taking on responsibilities well beyond the classroom. Yet he made a deliberate decision: he would not let the year slip away.
From Term 1, he committed himself fully. He studied during afternoon academy sessions, stayed back until 5pm on Fridays and treated every week as a chance to close the gap. His Year 12 Major Trip to Melbourne became a motivating reminder of what was possible if he stayed the course.
In Week 6 of Term 4, his effort was rewarded. After months of persistence, Joshsiah received confirmation that he had officially achieved his QCE. A journey that began miles behind ended with one of the most powerful turnarounds seen at the Townsville High Academy.
During the Melbourne trip, he shared aspirations to work in corrections or youth support, hoping to guide other young people towards positive pathways.
Townsville Regional Manager Michael Lay said Joshsiah’s determination captured the spirit of Clontarf.
“Joshsiah turned a seemingly insurmountable situation into a moment of real pride. His determination was exceptional, and the example he sets will stay with the younger boys for years to come.”
A Record Year Across Townsville Academies
Joshsiah’s story is one of many highlights in what has been a landmark year for the region. Across Heatley, Kirwan, Thuringowa and Townsville academies, Clontarf recorded its highest ever participation and Year 12 completions.
In 2025, the four academies supported over 590 boys and celebrated 76 Year 12 graduates, setting new regional records.
Michael Lay said the results reflect the combined efforts of young men, schools, families and partners.
“This year’s outcomes highlight the determination of our young men and the consistent support they receive from their schools, families and partners. We are seeing more boys stay engaged, finish Year 12 and take confident steps into employment or further study. It’s a credit to their effort and the teamwork happening across all four academies.”
With strong completion numbers and inspiring stories like Joshsiah’s leading the way, Clontarf’s impact across Townsville continues to grow, strengthening the foundation for even more achievements in 2026 and beyond.
