The first half of Term 3 has been a busy and productive period for Karratha Academy (WA), with academy members demonstrating leadership and enthusiasm across sport, community involvement and employment activities.
One of the early highlights was the Dockers Cup clinic, run by the Fremantle Football Club. The boys represented the academy with pride, participated enthusiastically and demonstrated the respect and positive behaviour expected of Clontarf academy members.
The academy also joined the local primary school academies for a huge game of dodgeball as part of an after-school activity. With boys and mentors lining up together, the game brought plenty of laughs, competition and teamwork. It gave the older boys an opportunity to encourage the younger academy members and enjoy some healthy rivalry in a relaxed setting.
Employment has also been an important focus. Older academy members took part in the academy’s Employment Forum, where they learned about workplace expectations, appropriate workplace behaviour and the realities of full-time employment. The boys spoke with partners, asked thoughtful questions and showed initiative throughout the session.
WA North West Regional Manager Rob Clements said the activities had highlighted the growing maturity of the group.
“What has stood out is the way the older boys have taken responsibility for setting the tone,” Rob said. “Whether they were encouraging the younger boys during dodgeball or asking employers practical questions about what will be expected of them at work, they showed they understand that leadership is about how you carry yourself and support those around you.”
Across the first half of the term, the boys have embraced each activity and set a positive standard for the remainder of Term 3.
