Senior Clontarf boys from Carnarvon, Karratha and Port Hedland recently took part in two employment forums across Western Australia’s North West, meeting local employers, practising interview skills and learning more about job opportunities in the region.
Senior boys from Carnarvon Academy travelled six hours to Karratha, where they joined boys from Karratha Academy for an employment forum attended by more than 20 Clontarf partners from across the region.
Before the forum, the boys visited ChalkWest WA for a worksite tour and hands-on car servicing activity.
At the forum, the boys completed mock interviews, picked up practical advice about working on site and spoke directly with partners about different roles and industries. They represented themselves, their academies and the Foundation with pride throughout the day.
In Port Hedland, around 30 boys from Hedland Academy took part in the North West Employment Forum at the Port Hedland Golf Club. The day featured speed networking, mock interviews, workplace advice, partner and alumni Q&A sessions and golf challenges.
Representatives from Auriga, Fortescue, Fulton Hogan, Fuelfix, Kmart, Linfox, Linkforce, MG Tyres, Pilbara Ports, Programmed, Reece, SRG Global and Woolworths contributed to the forum. Members of the Hedland Senior High School VET team and representatives from the Town of Port Hedland also took part.
Across both forums, the boys developed their confidence speaking with employers, practised skills they will need when applying for work and gained a clearer understanding of employment opportunities available in their region.
