Clontarf boys from across the Northern Territory recently travelled to Kununurra for the annual Northern Carnival, enjoying a week of sport, adventure and personal growth.
The carnival brought together teams from across the region, giving the boys the opportunity to test themselves against strong opposition while spending time with academy members from other communities.
Along the way, the group travelled through some of the most spectacular parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia, visiting places including Nitmiluk Gorge, Lake Argyle, Molly Springs and Kununurra.
Katherine Academy enjoyed a standout carnival, finishing undefeated and claiming the Oval 1 Championship. The team won all five matches, recording victories over Broome, East Kimberley, Derby, West Arnhem and Rosebery/Driver. Terence Runyu, Jayshaun Bara, Walker Huddlestone and Jaxon Scott were rewarded for their performances with selection in the Northern Territory All Stars team, which went on to secure a thrilling win over Western Australia.
The combined West Arnhem team also performed strongly, winning three of its five matches and building strong connections between academy members from Gunbalanya and Jabiru. Tristan Henda and Jude Whitehurst were selected in the Northern Territory All Stars team following their efforts across the carnival.
Haileybury Academy also had a successful campaign, winning four of its five matches. Joseph Ragget, Ettikai China Wosomo and Dennis Andrews earned All Stars selection after strong individual performances.
The trip also tested the resilience of the Haileybury group when an unexpected highway closure extended their journey home. The boys responded well, making the most of the extra time by visiting local attractions and spending more time together on the road.
The Northern Carnival once again proved to be a valuable experience, showcasing the best of Clontarf both on and off the field.
