NSW Academies Head North For Unforgettable Year 12 Interstate Trips

Year 12 boys from several New South Wales academies capped off their final year of school with separate major trips to Far North Queensland, each offering a mix of challenge, culture and celebration as the boys marked the end of their Clontarf journey in high school.

Toronto Academy – Cairns adventure of a lifetime

The Toronto Academy Year 12s joined several Newcastle-based academies for a week in Cairns, an experience filled with first-time moments, team challenges and standout activities.

Many boys experienced their first flight before diving into a full schedule that ranged from natural attractions to high-adrenaline outings. The group explored Cascade Falls, went go-karting, tried their hand at barramundi fishing, and cooled off at local wake parks.

A highlight was the Great Barrier Reef boat tour, where program participants snorkelled among vibrant coral and unique marine life. The group also visited HMAS Toowoomba, gaining insight into life in the Royal Australian Navy (Clontarf partner) and potential employment pathways.

The week served as a fitting celebration of the boys’ effort, maturity and commitment throughout their schooling.

Westport Academy – Reef, rainforest and new experiences

Westport Academy’s Year 12s also travelled to Far North Queensland for a week of outdoor activities and local exploration across Cairns, Yarrabah and Port Douglas.

The boys visited local schools in Yarrabah and spent time getting to know the area and community. They also toured a regional museum, giving them a broader understanding of the region before heading out for a full-day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkelling on the reef proved to be one of the standout moments of the camp.

Other activities included the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, wakeboarding, and competitive go-kart racing, all of which brought plenty of fun and challenge. The group wrapped up the week with a crocodile encounter and a final lookout stop before flying home.

Clontarf congratulates all Toronto, Newcastle and Westport Year 12s on their achievements and looks forward to supporting them transition into work and/or further education in 2026!
