Year 12 academy members from across South Australia recently travelled to Adelaide to take part in the annual Year 12 Leadership Camp, spending several days building leadership skills, strengthening connections and preparing for life beyond school.
Built around the theme “Get comfortable being uncomfortable,” the camp encouraged academy members to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones and support one another through a range of activities and experiences.
Based at Warradale Primary School Camp, the group quickly settled into the program, reconnecting with academy members from other locations and sharing in a busy schedule designed to bring the group together.
One of the early highlights was a volunteering activity alongside environmental organisation OzFish, where academy members worked together to clean up the Patawalonga waterway. Rolling up their sleeves, the group removed more than seven kilograms of plastic and other debris, helping protect the local marine environment while contributing positively to the community.
The camp also included a range of team challenges and outdoor activities, including the MegaClimb and the Big Wedgie at West Beach. These activities encouraged academy members to support each other, build confidence and take on new challenges.
Preparing for life after school was another important focus. Employment Officers spoke with academy members about Graduate Employment Plans and the importance of setting goals for the future. Clontarf partners including representatives from Santos and BHP also attended, sharing insights about the workforce and taking part in mock interviews that provided academy members with valuable experience engaging with potential employers.
A key moment of the camp came during the “Pledge to Finish Year 12”, where academy members reflected on their goals and spoke about the steps they plan to take to complete school and move into employment, training or further study.
The Foundation is proud of the way the boys approached the camp and the effort they showed throughout the week, and we wish them all the best as they take on their final year.
