Ballarat Hosts Victorian Clontarf Cup Carnival

Boys from Swan Hill Academy joined members from five other Victorian Clontarf academies in Ballarat for the annual Victorian Clontarf Cup.

Academies from across Victoria came together in Ballarat for the annual Clontarf Cup, with several groups making the journey for a multi-day experience that combined competition, connection and time away from routine.

For many, the trip began with long travel and setting up camp alongside other academies, quickly building a strong sense of shared experience. Activities across the first day, including barefoot bowls and group dinners, provided a chance to settle in, socialise and connect with peers from different regions.

Game day brought a full schedule of matches and activities, with academy members taking part in football games, skill sessions and team-based challenges. A strong focus throughout the carnival was on working together, with players pairing up during drills and supporting one another across the day. This approach reinforced teamwork, communication and effort, both on and off the field.

Conditions added to the challenge, with Ballarat’s weather shifting throughout the day. Despite this, academy members remained engaged and competitive, with several teams pushing deep into finals contention and others recognised for their leadership and attitude across the carnival.

Outside of the matches, the experience extended beyond football. Shared meals, group activities and time together in the evenings helped build relationships across academies, while also giving participants a chance to unwind after full days of activity.

The trip concluded with a final morning session bringing all academies together once more, before groups packed up and returned home.
