Port Lincoln young men take the next step towards work

Sixteen young men from Port Lincoln Academy recently met with local businesses and community supporters at a part-time employment forum focused on future employment pathways and workplace opportunities.

The forum brought together Year 10 to 12 participants who were keen to learn more about local employment options and better understand what employers look for when recruiting young people. It gave the young men the chance to speak directly with employers, ask questions about available roles and gain practical advice about workplace expectations, applications and presenting themselves professionally.

The academy was pleased to welcome representatives from Kmart, Bunnings, Port Lincoln Marina Hotel and Career Employment Group, along with Clontarf staff members Cam Ilett and Eddie Hocking. Their willingness to share their time, knowledge and experience helped create a positive and welcoming environment, while giving participants valuable insight into different industries and employment pathways in the Port Lincoln community.

Throughout the event, the young men represented themselves and the academy with pride. They introduced themselves confidently, handed out resumes and business cards, and spoke with employers about their interests, goals and future opportunities. For many, the forum was also a useful opportunity to practise the communication skills and confidence needed when applying for part-time work or preparing for life beyond school.

The professionalism and respect shown by the young men throughout the forum reflected the positive steps they continue to take through the Clontarf program. Opportunities like this play an important role in helping participants connect with local employers, understand the world of work and build the confidence to pursue employment, training or further education pathways.

Thank you to all partners and supporters who contributed to the forum. Their ongoing support helps create practical and valuable opportunities for Clontarf participants as they prepare for life beyond school.
