Prior to commencing with Rio Tinto, Tim was a valued member of Champion Bay Academy in Geradlton.
He joined the Academy in Term 1 of 2016 as a Year 11 student and instantly became a favourite amongst his peers.
At the end of 2016, Tim indicated he did not want to return to school in 2017 because he was not enjoying the Maths and English subjects he was undertaking. After talking with family, school staff and Clontarf staff, Tim made the wise decision to stay at school to improve himself academically which he achieved by completing Year 12.
Tim’s sole ambition during Year 11 and 12 was to obtain a mechanical apprenticeship and become a high quality tradesman. To achieve his goal, he:
- Completed a pre-apprenticeship in Year 11
- Undertook work experience, which included:
- Geraldton Truck Align
- On crayfish boats in Dongara
- Prestige Tiling in Dongara
- Starling Mechanical
- Iluka at Narngulu
- Held down several part-time
jobs with Red Dust Holdings, Dongara Quality - Meats and Road Runner Mechanical.
Tim’s qualifications include a Certificate 1 in Business, Certificate 2 in Building and Construction and his White Card. He is already driving on his Green P plates and owns his own vehicle.
As a result of staying in Year 12 and being a member of the Geraldton Clontarf Academy, Tim was introduced to recruiting staff from Rio Tinto. He applied for a HD Mechanical Apprenticeship and was successful.
He is loving his job in the Pilbara and Clontarf staff have received great feedback on his progress from his supervisors.
